What's on at the North Mill

We welcome all visitors and will do our best to accommodate individuals and groups with mobility problems. We have a wheelchair accessible toilet and can offer audio guides.

Please note that due to the historic nature of the site some parts of the North Mill cannot be accessed with a wheelchair. We do however show a video commentary on all the inaccessible sections of the museum and offer a complimentary tea/coffee for those unable to access all of the site.

Why not Gift Aid your visit?

If you are a UK taxpayer, making a Gift Aid declaration when you pay to visit Strutt’s North Mill Museum is a big help.  It costs you nothing but enables us, as a registered charity run by volunteers, to claim 25p back from the Government for every £1 paid.  This greatly boosts the funds we have for improving our displays and facilities.

Our reception staff will ask you if you would like to Gift Aid your visit and all you have to do is fill out a simple form.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a Government scheme administered by HM Revenue and Customs that enables charities to reclaim the basic rate tax you have paid as a taxpayer.  Eligible museums like ourselves can invite a donation in lieu of an admission fee (our standard donation is £5, the same as our admission price) and then reclaim Gift Aid on the donation.

Even better, the donation is made in return for us granting you the right of admission to the Museum for 12-months whenever we are open to the public, except for up to 5 days per year when special events are staged.  For this you will be given a special pass, meaning you can visit us again as many times as you like for a year (You do not have to Gift Aid to get this 12-month Pass – it will be issued to all adult visitors).

Am I Eligible for Gift Aid?

If you are a UK taxpayer then you can add Gift Aid to your visit.  All you need to make sure of is that you pay enough tax to cover any Gift Aid declarations you might make. If you pay tax at the higher rate you can claim further tax relief on your self-assessment tax form. Go to for further information.
